Privacy Policy

Anem keeps your data on your phone. This page explains exactly what leaves it, when, and why.

๐Ÿ“ฑ What stays on your phone

This is stored only on your device. There is no account, and we have no copy of it.

๐Ÿค– AI gift ideas

When you tap Get ideas, the app sends our server what it needs to suggest a gift: the relationship, the age (if you know the birth year), the gender (if you set it), their interests, the occasion, your notes about that person, past gifts with your reactions and notes, the budget, anything you type to steer the ideas (such as "something for the kitchen"), and your language and country. When you ask for more ideas, it also sends the titles of the ideas you were already shown, liked or dismissed, so the new ones are different.

The person's name, photo and birthday are never sent. Your notes and what you type are sent as you wrote them, so leave out anything you don't want processed.

Our server passes this to Anthropic (Claude) to write the ideas. Under Anthropic's commercial terms it is not used to train their models; Anthropic keeps it for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring and then deletes it. Gift idea titles (not your notes) are sent to Serper, a search service, to find matching products with prices and photos. Our own server does not store the content of these requests.

๐Ÿ”ข Free-use limits

Anem is free, with a monthly limit on AI ideas. To enforce it, the app sends a random ID it creates itself (not linked to you, your Apple or Google account, or your hardware), and our server sees your IP address. We keep only one-way hashes of these as counters: about 5 weeks for the app ID and 2 days for the IP address.

Server logs contain hashed IDs, language and timings โ€” never names, notes or gift text.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Contacts

Only when you choose to import, and only if you allow it, Anem reads names and birthdays from your contacts. This happens on your phone; contacts are never uploaded.

๐Ÿ“… Calendar

Only when you ask for it, Anem adds a birthday to your phone's own calendar. The entry stays in that calendar; we never see it.

๐Ÿ’พ Backup

When you export a backup, the file is created on your phone. It goes only where you send it.

๐Ÿ“Š Anonymous usage counts

To see which features are used, the app sends our server a count when certain things happen, such as opening the app, adding a person or asking for ideas. Each count holds only the name of the event, the platform (iOS, Android or web) and the app version. It carries no ID of any kind and none of your content, and we do not store your IP address with it, so the counts cannot be linked to you or to each other.

You can switch this off in Settings.

๐Ÿข Who processes data for us

โš–๏ธ Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete data we hold about you. Almost all of it is only on your phone: delete a person, or the app, to remove it. We process data to provide the features you ask for, and to prevent abuse of the free service. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

๐Ÿšซ What we don't do

๐Ÿ‘ถ Children

Anem is not meant for children under 16. We don't knowingly process their data.

๐Ÿ”„ Changes

If our data practices change, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.

Questions?

We're happy to answer anything about how Anem handles your data.
